Rakhi to act in Dirty Picture remake

In a classic instance of the subject returning the gaze, Rakhi Sawant has decided to do a Bengali remake of The Dirty Picture, the Vidya Balan-starrer that was based on ill-fated item girl, Silk Smitha. The film, being directed by Shatabdi Roy and produced by Tapas Paul, will naturally be bolder.

All you wanted to know about The Dirty Picture
No one is announcing this louder than bindaas Mumbai mulgi Rakhi Sawant, who also took the opportunity to lash out at oomph-y superstar Vidya Balan. Vidya Balan, she claims, has done nothing in the The Dirty Picture. In a typically feisty punchline, Rakhi added that a sari is meant to be taken off in films and not worn, and that it is solely for this reason that a film becomes a hit, not because of its star, again hinting that Vidya’s blockbuster status is a fluke of good timing.

Incidentally, the makers of this Bengali remake met Rakhi because they were impressed with her performance in an item number in the Bengali film Om Shanti. Wonder what she did in it? The filmmakers added that the hunt for the male lead is still on. What’s up with Rakhi’s Bengali connection? It has a resonance with Vidya again, who forged a Bengali connection with her last blockbuster Kahaani, set in moody, film noir-friendly Kolkata.
Coming back to the Dirty Picture remake, Rakhi has mentioned on Karan Johar’s chat show and other platforms that she has been a victim of the casting couch, a candour that has won her many fans. Perhaps playing the role will come easily to her. Also, like Silk Smitha, Rakhi has found considerable success for an item girl, an industry type that usually ends up being sidelined rather unfairly.
