'Bittoo Boss’: Movie Review (2012)

Movie Review (2012)
 Film: “Bittoo Boss”
Cast: Pulkit Samrat, Amita Pathak, Mohan Kapoor, Rajendra Sethi
Director: Supavitra Babul
Rating:

The sheer relief of watching a gifted new actor play, for a change, a good hearted, idealistic hero who sets off to make blue films and ends up sorting out problems between couples, is enough to make us not wince at the jagged edges which stick out here, there and everywhere in the narration.
The presentation could have done with some more finesse, and a lot better packaging. But hey, the heart is in the right place.
Indeed “Bittoo Boss” for a large part ambles forward with no seeming purpose. It opens with an elaborate Punjabi wedding which, quite vocally, pays its homage to Sooraj Barjatya. Lording over the ‘shaadi ka dhoom-dhaam’ is our endearing videographer Bittoo who shoots, in his words, not weddings but emotions, not bodies but the feelings within.
As played by debutant Pulkit Samrat, Bittoo is bit of a brat, but enormously sincere and idealistic. We don’t get heroes like this anymore.
The script, written as a series of episodes representing ‘Adventures In The Life Of A Small-Town Videographer’, gives the protagonist a chance to romance sleaze and then pulls him out of the morass just in time.
This is a film that’s breezy but never stormy in its impact. It works because of the director’s sincerity of intent. While most filmmakers today prefer to dwell on the dark side of heroism, debutant director Supavitra Babul doesn’t shy away bringing in a shiney idealism into Bittoo’s character.
Pulkit, despite an unreal hairstyle, comes across with endearing sincerity.
Expressive earnest and quite impressive in his interpretation of the character’s embarrassing, he is a welcome addition to Hindi cinema’s hero club.
What brings down Pulkit’s performance as a videographer who would rather break bones than bend self-rules, is the scattered narrative. More often than not, Bittoo Boss rambles aimlessly through what looks like episodes of a television serial strung together in a movie form. Also, the central performer hardly gets support from the other actors who all seem to be briefed to behave like Punjabi middle-class freeloaders.
Curiously, leading lady Amita Pathak’s dialogues and demeanour seem directly derived from Anushka Sharma’s “Band Baaja Baaraat”. Amita’s character is a part of that recent movement in our cinema whereby small-town North Indian girls are shown to be self-willed, headstrong, defiant and slightly wacky…Kangna Ranaut in “Tanu Weds Manu” and Anushka in “Band Baaja Baaraat” define that movement.
“Bittoo Boss” is filled with some genuinely endearing moments where the protagonist comes close to losing his stubborn values but retrieves them just in time.
This film is an uneven but likeable experience held together by the debutant Pulkit’s performance. He’s undoubtedly a star in the making.

Ram Charan Teja & Apoorva Lakhia kickstart Zanjeer remake

This pic is for all those who are big ZANJEER fan. The guy on the far right in black t-shirt next to Apporva Lakhia is RAM CHARAN TEJA. He is a Telugu actor. He is the son of yesteryear veteran Telugu actor CHIRANJEEVI. Ram Charan is pretty big deal down south and he is all set to conquer bollywood. Wishing him all the luck.
Loved Loved Loved his film and his performance in MAGHADEERA. If you haven't see the film then you should watch it. It is really good. I believe that Bollywood is also remaking MAGHADEERA and Ranveer Singh will play the lead role of Ram Charan. Personally, I don't think anyone can do justice to Ram Charan performance.. especially not Ranveer Singh. So, I am kind of bummed that Ranveer will be playing the lead role. It's not like I think he is not a good actor. Ranveer is good, but he is not great. And most importantly, he doesn't have that ROYAL look. I strongly feel that the lead actor of MAGHADEERA should be able to carry off the look of royal and has to have good strong features like Arjun Rampal. Oh well, here is wishing RAM CHARAN TEJA and the entire team all the luck.

Veena Malik 's 'Veena ka Vivah' will never take off

Pakistani controversial model/actress Veena Malik, who was eagerly looking forward to her reality show 'Veena Ka Vivah' the third season of Swayamvar on Indian television NDTV Imagine TV has finally announced its closure.
According to the official statement of the channel ‘Imagine TV’ which was released earlier today, the channel ‘Imagine TV’ has shut down its operations in India from Thursday, 12th April 2012.
With the news of the channel shutting down there have been a lot of talks about Veena Mailk's swayamwar, the program for which all the preparations were already done.
Imagine TV was launched as NDTV Imagine in January 2008. According to sources, the channel was garnering less TRP’s. Turner Broadcasting System (U.S based media giant firm) Asia Pacific, a division of Time Warner’s Turner International, issued the statement to the media and relevant authorities about shutting down their Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) ‘Imagine TV’ in India.
Siddharth Jain, the M.D. South Asia Turner International, said "The channel could not perform as per the expectations though a few of the shows got marvelous ratings but the overall business from the channel was below satisfactorily levels. Thus the company decided to close down the operations of the channel in India." He added that, "It was not a haste decision rather a very carefully decided decision. NTDV Network, the company which owned the majority stake of the channel Imagine TV initially, sold its part to the U.S based Turner International in year 2010."
Presently Turner International owns and runs a number of well-watched and popular TV channels such as CNN, HBO, Cartoon Network, TCM, WB and Boomerang in India.
So now Veena Malik's dream of becoming a bride on NDTV Imagine has come to an end.

Rani Mukerji to do a 'tapori' item song for 'Aiyya'

For those who thought that Rani Mukerji has probably bid goodbye to the silver screen, here's the latest news. Rani, who is out of her year long hibernation, will soon be seen in Anurag Kashyap's Hindi remake of Tamil superhit, 'Aiyya'.
Rani who was last seen in 'No One Killed Jessica' will be essaying the role of a dancer in the film. And while not much has been spoken about the story or the rest of the cast, here is an interesting bit that is fast making news, Rani will be performing a Tapori item song in the film that will pay tribute to three dancing queens of the present times.
The Actor is very excited to play this item song and her fans are also keen to see her dancing in an item song. This song will be choreographed by none other than veteran choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant. Rani will be playing a tapori for the song as the lyrics of the song are playful and naughty.Rani is behind many of the successful films and has a very long list of her fans all over the world.
Rani remarked ‘’ I am doing my best to make it very special and rest is up to the audience how they rate it. For the very first time Rani is going to do an item song and she expressed her wish to make this item song very different from others. Katrina, Kareena and other actresses who are doing item numbers in films and making a big money are to be challenged by Rani with this upcoming song.

Emraan Hashmi as a rustic pan chewing reporter in ‘Shanghai’

There is no denying the fact that Emraan Hashmi has given many successful films at the box office. His last release ‘Murder 2’ was a big Bollywood hit and the first look and trailer of his forthcoming ‘Shanghai’ looks quite promising. Emraan plays a foul-mouthed reporter in this Dibakar Banerjee’s flick and for this, he had to chew tobacco.
On the first day of the shoot, Emraan Hashmi was asked to chew tobacco for a scene and Emraan found the taste so disgusting that he almost threw up and felt giddy.
The director insisted that since his role required him to do it, there was no other way out. After a lot of discussions, Banerjee and Emraan Hashmi came to the conclusion that the actor should chew tobacco.
However, Emraan failed to appear for a promotional event with his co-star since he was busy with his shoot for ‘Jannat 2’.
A disappointed Banerjee said, “I was heartbroken that we were not able to kick off the promotions with a trailer launch. We went through a lot trying to coordinate Emraan and Abhay’s dates and then change it all over again.” Shanghai is Banerjee’s release after two years, since his last film LSD: Love, Sex Aur Dhokha. The movie stars Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi and Kalki Koechlin.
The first trailer of the flick shows Emraan as a rustic, paan-chewing village thug and he made his way into cine lovers hearts when he gave a scornful smile, his paan-stained teeth flashing on the screen.

Kareena Kapoor Has signed 5 Crore Deal

According to reports, Kareena Kapoor has signed a whopping deal with a lemonade brand, giving her arch-rival Katrina Kaif (who endorses a mango drink) a run for her money.
Bebo, who was the face of another popular cola company, lost no time after her current contract expired and grabbed another endorsement deal from a rival brand for apparently Rs 5 crore.
A source said, “Kareena now has 16 brands in her kitty including the latest one, easily making her the most sought-after face in the ad space amongst the actresses. 2011 was the year of big money for Kareena, thanks to her back-to-back hits.”Ever since she signed onto to Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine, her fat pay cheques have been grabbing headlines. She was apparently paid almost Rs 8 crore for the film, the highest for any actress in the Indian film industry ever.
Clearly that has reflected on her choice of brands and the money she is charging for them as well. The source added, “Though Bebo has a lot of film commitments, she makes sure she gives enough time to her brands and hence charges as much.”
Kareena was also spotted shooting for her very first commercial with the brand a few days ago at a studio in Mumbai. The source said, “Both Katrina and Asin who endorse soft drinks have had ads that have gained a lot of popularity. So, Kareena and her team were insistent that the commercial must be catchy and entertaining.”
All Kareena had to say is: “I am not allowed to talk money.” Here are the Stills from her last release Agent Vinod.

Top 10 Bollywood: CAT FIGHTS: Number 8: Rani Mukherjee and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Rani and Aishwarya have never really shared a very cordial relationship and before Kareena and Katrina stepped into the limelight the two had been vying for the top spot. There were also rumours that Rani and Abhishek were dating each other for a while.
