Cocktail Music Review

Cocktail - An amazing album with a variety of rich music
Rating  4/5
Cocktail - meaning, a drink made from various alcoholic drinks and when done perfectly really tastes great. Cocktails have evolved from experiments, few of them were successful and few not so successful. Seems this is what Pritam wanted to do this time and he has not only succeeded but made his mark on it. Truly, this cocktail should be named - Pritam's cocktail.
There is a long unusual list of 11 songs in the album; each one is unique in its own, mixed with a perfect blend of music, melody and instruments in background. All the songs are done very neatly - from rock to Sufi, from bandhu to sakha, from good voice to excellent music, from soft number to a rock number, from young to old, there is something for all.
Track one, Tum Hi Ho Bandhu is already a massive hit. This is a masterpiece done by Pritam. Just realize this one – it is Sufi song done by Kavita Seth accompanied by modern instruments and good fast music, Never ever heard before. This one is melodious, soft but still a peppy number. Not to forget lyrics too add on magic Tum Hi Ho Bandhu, as these words were a prayer sung in morning school assemblies.
The second song of the album, Daaru Desi has a different strength to its credit; the lyrics are simple and easy to remember. Each of us can easily hum this one and this is actually what makes it unique.
Next track Second Hand Jawani is a well done item number by Neha Kakkar which is fulfilling the purpose of a number that can attract masses and people can correlate this item number with the movie.
An experiment, Yaariyaan is a true rock number and another dimension of what Pritam has created. For people who are in love with rock music, this is Pritam's gift and what makes it more recognizable are some beautiful voals by Mohan Kanan. Though the length of the song is over 6 minutes it never bogs you down.
Followed by this is the track Lutna, a Sufi song, which is another experiment in the forte of Pritam da. A mix of modern instruments and amazing play of keyboard, this Sufi number is work of a genius.
Next in the album is Tera Naam Japdi Phiran , which is just an ordinary Punjabi number mixed with English punch lines that are inspired by the Barbie series.
The experiment moves to the next track of Yaarian (reprise). Starting with the beautiful play of keyboard, it is accompanied by beautiful, melodious and soft voice of Sunidhi Chauhan which mixes high notes well. Usually it is found that two versions of the same song are not so different in an album, but this is not the case here. To say if one is sun and another is moon; these two versions are very different and done beautifully which shows that music director has been willing to takes up the challenge to do the same number in different ways and pretty much succeeded.
Jugni, is another gift for Sufi and rock lovers. It is Punjabi Sufi track with an element of rock in it and what makes it different from the league is the experiment done with drums. The next two tracks though, second versions each of Tera Naam Japdi Phiran and Lutna, are not much different from their original tracks and look just a repeat.
Last but not the least is Main Sharabi, a track that is not so impressive, but reminds of Gurdas Maan numbers. The song can do well in a cocktail party and enjoyed after couple of drinks.
One rarely sees so many experiments being successfully done at one go and this challenge is lived up by Pritam. Overall it is an amazing album with a variety of rich music which has something for all.
Music lovers would be delighted to hear this kind of album after a long, long time and going to live it for some more time to come.

Gangs Of Wasseypur Movie Review

Anurag Kashyap's Gangland Epic
Rating  3.5/5

Gangs Of Wasseypur Review - In Brief:
Clans formed in pre-Independence era battle it out for supremacy over decades in the dusty coal town of Dhanbad.

Gangs Of Wasseypur Review - Verdict:
Definitely worth a watch for sheer cinematic pleasure!

Gangs Of Wasseypur Review - Story Plot:
When the father of Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee), who works as an enforcer for a coal mining big-wig Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia), is killed by his employer for being too ambitious, the young Sardar vows to avenge his father's death and grows up with a single minded vendetta- to destroy Singh slowly but surely. Meanwhile, there is another feud between Khan's clan and that of Sultan (Pankaj Tripathi), whose families have been clashing since the pre-Independence era. If that is not all, Sardar, who just can't seem to get enough of women, is caught between his two wives Nagma (Richa Chadda) and Durga (Reema Sen). How the two gangs battle it out for supremacy, while Sardar deals with his own issues at home, forms the rest of the plot.

Gangs Of Wasseypur Review - Performances:
Manoj Bajpai as Sardar Khan is simply a pleasure to watch. A cold-blooded gangster, who kills a man with an ice pick in broad daylight and yet scurries away like a scalded cat when his angry wife starts throwing pots and pans at him, Bajpai's Sardar makes you cringe and guffaw in equal measure. Richa Chadda as the feisty Nagma, who doesn't think twice before hurling invectives at her husband and threatening a bunch of policemen with a sickle, does her job well too. A newbie actress, who had a short role in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Chadda manages to exonerate herself quite well in this gangland flick. Moreover, special mention also goes to Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who plays Sardar's son Faisal Khan. Just like his father, Faisal is a complicated character-one who can be ruthless when he wants to be and yet get teary-eyed after being scolded by a girl for acting fresh. Siddiqui's Faisal has that 'poor little boy' quality that makes him so endearing, despite him being a pot-head and an heir to a mafia empire. Director Tigmanshu Dhulia, who makes his acting debut, performs his part with the élan of a veteran. Other actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Piyush Mishra and Jaideep Ahlawat too are impressive with their work. Special credit goes to the casting director for hand-picking the perfect actors for the characters. ..for example, the actor who plays the younger Ramadhir Singh (a role played by Tigmanshu) closely resembles Tigmanshu Dhulia, which lends the whole process a sense of authenticity…

Gangs Of Wasseypur Review - Direction:
Kashyap, who has given us mind-blowing products like Black Friday, Dev D, Gulaal and Paanch, delivers an epic crime saga with this latest film. Though the first half seems to go on and on without stopping, the movie is simply a pleasure to watch-be it for the variety of characters or performances or the dialogues or the comical situations, even in the middle of hard-core action sequences (like the scene where Bajpai's country-made revolver ends up scorching his own hand, leaving him hopping around and cursing with much feeling even as his intended victim makes a dash for life). The violence is gritty and without mercy so if you are too squeamish to watch bodies being butchered or heads bludgeoned with stones, better give this one a miss. However, one does end up feeling that Kashyap could have kept the movie a tad concise.

Gangs Of Wasseypur Review - Music:
With songs like Womaniya, I am a hunter and keh ke lunga, the music of Gangs Of Wasseypur has already been a hit with the masses even before the release and the music is sure to keep one entertained as much as the plot.

Gangs Of Wasseypur Review - Final Word:
For fans of Manoj Bajpai and the Kashyap school of gritty filmmaking, Gangs Of Wasseypur is a treat for sure.

Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan together on screen!

f all goes as planned, we might get to see Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan on one screen, during Salman’s Ek Tha Tiger release.
If buzz is to be believed, the trailer of Yash Chopra’s untitled film, starring SRK and Kats in the lead will along with Salman-Katrina starrer Ek Tha Tiger on Eid, August 13.
We have no clue how SRK will react to this, but he has very little or rather we say, no option but piggyback on Salman Khan.

Yash Chopra’s film finally named ‘Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum’?

Yash Chopra’s untitled flick starring Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead, finally gets a name. The film is likely to be named ‘Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum’.
A source close to the unit informs, “While there were various options, both Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra were not happy with them. There had been reports that London Ishq was the title but the makers had denied it.”
The source adds, “Yash Chopra had more or less finalised that the film would be called Jai but later he did a rethink. He preferred Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum from his controversial film Silsila which starred Amitabh Bachchan with Rekha and Jaya Bachchan.”
However, the spokesperson, of the production house says, nothing is confirmed yet.

Emraan – Vidya to romance in Mumbai monsoon!

‘Ghanchakkar’ starring Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi, has been preponed by a month. The director of the film, Rajkumar Gupta, is presently on top of the world as his wish of capturing the two actors romancing in the Mumbai monsoon, finally comes true..
Initially, due to Emraan’s time constraints, the shooting was supposed to begin in September.
Gupta narrated: “I had originally planned an August schedule. And Vidya, who is at the moment doing no other film, was completely one with my film’s schedule. But Emraan was busy promoting Raaz 3 in August as the film was supposed to release at the end of August.”
“But now I believe ‘Raaz 3′ has been pushed forward, so I got the window to shoot the scenes that I wanted. I guess I am just lucky
The whole idea is to capture Vidya and Emraan with secret cameras, on the rain-soaked streets of Mumbai. However, this requires a lot of courage.
“I agree. But both are used to shooting in the crowded outdoors. If Vidya could brave the Kolkata crowds in Kahaani and the Delhi crowd in my film No One Killed Jessica, then Mumbai would be a cakewalk in comparison.”
“The important thing is god has been generous. Thanks to Emraan’s reshuffled appointment diary, I’m able to shoot as and when I had originally planned,” he said.
The film is most likely to release in the first quarter of 2013.

Saif Ali Khan will play Jawaharlal Nehru?

If all goes well, actor Saif Ali Khan will be seen play Jawaharlal Nehru
in Britain-based Indian filmmaker, Gurinder Chadha’s partition film. The film will be shot in Delhi and Jodhpur.
“I’ve already acquired the necessary permission to shoot everywhere in India including Rashtrapati Bhavan. So I am all set. I don’t have to shoot in Pakistan at all. This would be my ultimate dream project and I can’t wait for it to take off,” she said.
It is heard that the filmmaker has already spoke to Naseeruddin Shah to play Muhammad Ali Jinnah and that he is ready for the role.
“This is my biggest challenge to date. I’ve been working on my partition film for some time now. The central character is Lord Mountbatten. The movie is set in January 1947 when Mountbatten was asked to oversee India and the movie ends in August 1947, so it’s a brief time span”.
“But (it is) a huge canvas requiring tonnes and tonnes of research and scores of characters. I’ve spoken to some people including Naseer and Saif. Nehru’s role is a cameo, so I wonder if Saif would be willing to do it,” she said on phone from London.
If news is to be believed, Hollywood biggies Colin Firth or Michael Fassbender will be roped in to play the film’s central figure Lord Mountbatten.
The film will go on floor this October.

Sanjay Dutt’s niece to star in ‘Yeh Jo Mohabbat hai’

Producer Ashim Samanta is set to continue the legacy of Aradhana Films with his upcoming romantic flick “Yeh Jo Mohabbat hai”.
This will be his son, Aditya Samanta’s debut film and he will be seen with Sanjay Dutt’s niece, Nazia Hussain. The film is directed by Shree Narayan Singh.
Both Aditya and Nazia make a nice on screen couple. “I am very excited. I hope that they succeed. The chemistry on screen is excellent. They both look fantastic and like they are made for each other,” Ashim said on the music launch of the film Wednesday.
“She (Nazia) is exactly what we wanted. I auditioned so many girls. I wanted somebody young and innocent and not very modern. I wanted a mix of tradition and modernity and that was tough,” he added.
The music of the film is fresh and has been composed by Anu Malik, who was also present at the event along with the complete cast of the film. The film’s cast also includes veteran actors like Mohnish Behl, Rati Agnihotri and Farida Jalal.
Shakti Samanta’s banner Aradhana Films is known for its epic romantic dramas like Amar Prem, Kati Patang and Aradhana. “Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai” is also a romantic film but is modern in its outlook.
“Emotions like love don’t change with time. We might be portraying age old emotions in the film, but the film is very modern in its outlook,” Ashim said.

Ajay Devgn to copy ‘Jumping Jack’ moves in ‘Himmatwala’

He is known for playing intense roles, but now Ajay Devgn is ready to imitate Bollywood’s “Jumping Jack” Jitendra’s dance moves in his new film “Himmatwala”, which is based on the 1983 film of the same name.
“I am ready to do anything, be it action or dance… You can’t look at one department, it is a film in totality… I am looking at the whole film right now,” Ajay told reporters Wednesday.
Said Sajid Khan, director of the new version of “Himmatwala”: “Ajay’s image is action and intense oriented, but for me, he is a complete hero. He can do anything. Our film is not a take off on ‘Himmatwala’. It’s not a spoofy film.
“It is based on 1983 film ‘Himmatwala’ and it is my version of ‘Himmatwala’. You will get to see many things which were not there in ‘Himmatwala’. Actually, they are two different stories. We have taken rights officially for the film and for the two songs.”
Directed by Telugu filmmaker K. Raghvedra, Jeetendra and Sridevi-starrer “Himmatwala” was a super hit film of 1983.
Sajid says Jeetendra may do a guest appearance in his film.
“I will ask Jeetu-ji to do a cameo in the film. For Ajay, it is like homecoming because his dad did action for ‘Himmatwala’. This time around the action will be completely new and different.”
Ajay said: “I am asking him (Jeetendra) to do that cameo. I don’t know if he would do that or not.”
To be co-produced by Vashu Baghnani and UTV Motion Pictures, the film’s leading lady is not yet finalised.
