Mallika and the rumors!

The quintessential item girl aka JAlebi bai takes Rs 75 lakh from the Azaan actor and ignores his pleas to return the money. But she has a different story to tell…
We are tired of publishing negative stories about Mallika Sherawat but the Hisss actor seems unwilling to stop scaling the heights of histrionics and unprofessional behaviour. And the latest to bear the brunt of Mallika’s erratic mood swings is Sachin Joshi. The Azaan actor, we hear, wanted to make a film with Mallika. The film was titled Mumbai Mirror and the leggy lass had agreed to be part of the venture. She signed on the dotted line and had even taken Rs 75 lakh as a signing amount.
Apparently everything was hunky-dory between the young producer and the sizzling babe before Mallika’s ever-swinging mood changed! Just two days before the shoot started, Mallika came up with unreasonable demands. She asserted that she wanted to be the hero of the movie and wasn’t particularly happy with her role. Left with no option but to find a replacement for Mallika, Joshi found a new actor called Vimla Raman for his film.
A little birdie tells us that when Sachin tried to contact Mallika to return his Rs 75 lakh, she completely ignored his repeated pleas. In fact, the Murder star was happily preening and blowing kisses on the red carpet in Cannes. We hear that Joshi is about to approach the Producers Guild of India and file an official complaint against Mallika now. We hope Sachin’s legal action will change Ms Sherawat’s tune and good sense will prevail in her whimsical head. Till it does, producers need to think twice before having this Haryanvi babe on board. But then comes a twist in this sordid tale. We hear now that Mallika is fabulously furious with Sachiin Joshi for spreading stories about her greedy and unprofessional behaviour, especially after he was the one who tom-tommed it all over town that the lady had loved his script and was eager to do the film. Our buddy the birdie tells us that Mallika was majorly shocked to hear the stories, since she had just about met Sachiin and heard the synopsis of the film; she had not agreed to do it, but had asked for a complete script.
Now who is cooking up what stories about whom, we cannot tell without knowing more from Mallika and Sachiin alike, but as soon as we do, you will be told!

Neha Dupia in Karan Johar’s film.

Actress Neha Dhupia is all set to share screen space with Emraan Hashmi in Karan Johar’s next home production to be directed by Rensil D’Silva . “Yes, I have been signed for this film. I can’t talk much about it. There are other two films of mine that are coming out- Maximum and Rush,” said Dhupia.
The film will also star Sanjay Dutt, Kangana Ranuat, Randeep Hooda and is likely to roll out later this year.
Earlier, Karan had said, “The film has a strong ensemble cast, like Emraan, lots of people are there in it like Kangana, Randeep Hooda and host of young brilliant actors. We will announce the film with title and cast very soon. It is about individual paths, there is no predominant love story. It is too early to talk about it.”

First Look! ‘Raunchy’ Kareena Kapoor’s Halkat Jawani Curves

Kareena Kapoor has joined the ever growing brigade of item girls! Here’s the first look of the star in the song Halkat Jawani from the film Heroine. No more size zero, Bebo is flaunting her curves. Director Madhur Bhandarkar shared the first look and tweeted: ‘Scintillating & beautiful Kareena in her HalkatJawani look on the sets of Heroine.’
According to reports, Kareena followed a special diet for weeks to get those perfect curves. Kareena seems to have lost a lot of flab around her waist for the song (compared to her last appearance in the Agent Vinod mujra ‘Dil Mera Muft Ka’).
Halkat Jawani is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and choreographed by Ganesh Acharya. Her costume has been designed by favourite designer Manish Malhotra. Dressed in a fuschia sari and black choli, Kareena’s look reminds us of Katrina Kaif’s turn in Chikni Chameli.

TV actress Rucha Gujrati physically and mentally abused

Television actress Rucha Gujrati aka ‘Kiya’ of popular soap ‘Saas Bina Susural’ was physically and mentally harassed by her husband Mitul Sanghvi. Rucha got married to chemical engineer Mitul Sanghvi in 2010. She lodged a complaint against her husband at the Juhu police station.
Rucha’s marriage hit the rock few months after her marriage. She was physically and mentally abused by her husband and in-laws.
Says the source, "Problems cropped up soon after Rucha tied the knot on October 24, 2010 with Mitul, who is from a very affluent family. Mitul is completely under his parents' hold and shares everything with them, including the couple's bedroom conversations. The torture began on their honeymoon. Mitul woke Rucha up at 6 am and asked her why she didn't share the honeymoon expenses with him. He grabbed her by the hands and flung her onto the bed. She was shocked! No sooner had they returned that his parents started meddling in their affairs too. She was asked by her husband to follow whatever her father-in-law asked her to do."
Rucha’s in-laws are said to be not happy with her profession. They put on many restrictions on her. "At one point, they took away her set of house keys and warned that they'd never allow her in if she stepped out. They even deprived her of meals and asked her to foot the bills for her expenses and fend for herself. Rucha has been bearing her own expenses for the past two years. She isn't working currently, which has already made a dent in her savings. Her financial condition isn't very good."
Forgetting the past, Rucha tried to mend the differences with her husband but she and her father was ill-treated by Mitul. "He refused to open the door for her, and that's when her father landed up at his house. An infuriated Mitul opened the door, grabbed her father by the collar and started hitting him. He then directed his anger at Rucha, pulled her by her hair and slapped her, leaving a deep cut on her lips."
Both Rucha and her mother-in-law called the police separately, “When Rucha pleaded with them to book her in-laws for mental and physical abuse, the cops instead apologised to her inlaws and left! She had kept quiet all this while hoping things would change. Now, she has called her sister to stay with her as she fears her in-laws will harm her. She doesn't mind giving the marriage a second chance, but her husband and in-laws need to treat her with respect," adds the friend.
Rucha confirms that there is trouble in her marriage, "I would not like to divulge the details. All I can say is that I want justice."

‘Shanghai’: Movie Review (2012)

Movie Review (2012)
 Film: “Shanghai”
Cast: Prosenjeet Chatterjee, Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin, Supriya Pathak and Farooque Shaikh
Director: Dibakar Banerjee
Rating:  3.5/5

Watching “Shanghai” is revisiting your daily local newspaper, full of scams, conspiracies and crime stories. In short, the film is a slice of today’s India.
Adapted from “Z”, a 1966 novel by Vassilis Vassilikos, Dibakar Banerjeer brilliantly exposes the reality behind the irony of India Shining.
The scenes are verbatim daily newspaper briefs.
Set in present day nondescript shanty called Bharatnagar, it sees Dr. Ahmedi (Prosenjeet Chatterjee), a US-based professor and activist, visiting Bharatnagar to enlighten its inhabitants about ‘pragati’ (progress).
He opposes the transformation of the shanty town into a zany township, a la Shanghai. But he is murdered by the opposition who try to pass off his death as an accident.
After that the story moves ahead with Shalini Sahay (Kalki Koechlin), Ahmedi’s besotted student and daughter of an ex-army general who is involved in a scam, IAS Officer T.A. Krishnan (Abhay Deol), videographer Joginder Parmar (Emraan Hashmi), Ahmedia’s wife Aruna (Tillotama Shome), chief minister (Supriya Patak) and her PA (Farooque Sheikh).
While the film grips you, it’s the system that gets to you.
“Why did you do commit the murder, when you knew it is wrong,” Shalini asks the murderer.
Another dialogue – “Jeene se haraam lagta hai. Par marne se darr bhi lagta hai…” clearly shows the hunger for survival. It’s a sorry state of affairs, where the common denominator is the victim.
There is a simplistic nature to the narrative and archetype.
The performance of every character is realistic and matter-of-fact. Emraan impresses with his rustic portrayal, quite different from his usual flamboyant characters. Abhay Deol, as the IAS Officer, bowls over the audience with his grit and, of course, unmistakable Tamil accent. Kalki slips effortlessly into the character, yet again, revealing her versatility.
However, what you take home is not the memories of a character well-performed, but the story.
The film is frighteningly true.
The strength of “Shanghai” is its tight screenplay by Urmi Juvekar and Dibakar Banerjee and the meticulous details leave no scope for arguments.
What adds to the flavour is excellent cinematography by Nikos Andritsakis and the marvellous use of sound, both ambient and otherwise, to build up the tension in the political drama.
The controversial song “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and the item number “Imported Kamariyaa” are well-picturised and the latter is on the way to become the next favourite numbers at all ‘basti’ celebrations.
Despite its simplistic and down-to-earth locations, “Shanghai” has a nice hard-boiled vibe and a sense of semi-exotic danger. Definitely gives you a lot to ponder about.
Don’t miss this one.

‘Love Wrinkle-free’: Movie Review (2012)

Movie Review (2012)
 Film: “Love, Wrinkle Free”
Cast: Ash Chandler, Shernaz Patel, Seema Rahmani, Ashwin Mushran
Director: Sandeep Mohan
Rating:  3/5

Every year only a handful of English films are made in India, fewer still finding a release. The marriage of English and cinema is one that has sadly not happened in the country.
Hence, to see a film made in English that retains local Indian flavours despite a few flaws, is a sheer delight. “Love, Wrinkle-free” is that tangy little Indian English comedy which has few parallels in the country.
Middle-aged Savio (Ash Chandler) with an adopted teenage daughter and a seven-year-older henpecking wife Annie (Shernaz Patel), is going through troubles in his job. The couple discover that despite her age, and inspite of many failed attempts, Annie is pregnant.
Savio, meanwhile, falls for a suave businessman Rajiv (Theron D’souza), who raises money to invest in his business.
As things start falling apart, Savio finds himself falling for Rajiv’s girlfriend Natalie (Seema Rahmani) even as Rajiv goes absconding with his money. Things, it seems, can’t go worse. But they do.
There are many things that work for this little indie Indian-English comedy. Most of all are the actors.
Ash Chandler is likeable as the perennially confused, hassled and typical Goan man Savio. However, it is Shernaz Patel as his wife who excels in the film and holds it together.
As director Sandeep Mohan digs deep into Goan culture, he finds many of their idiosyncrasies that make for funny screen time. The writing is also funny with some really witty lines.
A film set in Goa cannot be devoid of music. And this one has its decent share with some foot-tapping numbers and some hilarious songs like the one called “Kha Momo (eat momos)”. Its silly, irreverent lyrics go on and on in all seriousness.
Despite many elements that come together, especially the wit and humour that sparkle in bits, the main flaw of the film lies in the end that seems rushed up as many things are left unexplained. Many opportunities to play up the humour at the climax are missed.
The stereotype of low-budget indie film is that they are supposed to be serious. It is hence refreshing to see one that isn’t.
Of course, you can’t expect a masterpiece with this one, but why should you? Just because it is an indie film does not mean it has to be boring, oblong and serious to boot.
Go expecting a film that is fun, has a few laughs and a lot of giggles. Expect a spicy Goan fish curry and you won’t be disappointed. If you ever had the inclination to support a small but well made indie film, this one you must not miss.
